dig deep

dig deep
past the nooks and nodules
covered with hoary frost
frozen into disuse by denial
and arrogance
dig deep
through manhandled detritus
discarded and broken
strewn into millions of wayward shards
dig deep
until hands bleed and eyes swell
blinded by disgust and abhorrence
searching for singularity
a tiny fragment of solidarity
an imaginary bit of wholeness
with which to dispel the ghastliness
